President's Report
January 2013

2013 Officers

First, I want to thank all the people that wanted to help the USRA for 2012-2013 seasons as officers. Also I want to thank Kelley Hartranft for all that she does in keeping the Web site in order and for all of the money and membership items that she does. We have Tony Husak, Dennis and Joann running both races again this year!

Officers for the 2013 season:
  Jeff Powell, President
  Peter Goldsmith, Vice President
  Martin Treat, West Coast Rep
  Tom Keating, East Coast Rep
  Randy Ritch, Central Rep
Marty Flood, West Coast Race Promoter

2013 Race Schedule

This year we have decided to do only 2 races again for the season. Because of the money it takes and the low turn out we had at the first 2 races, we the board thought this would be the best thing to do for this year again. So please let any board members know what your thoughts are for the races this year so for next year we can evaluate and make different decisions if need be. Every one needs to say thanks to Chuck Hebestreit and Marty Flood for this year races!

Winslow Air Race
  Winslow, AZ
  June 6th thru June 9th

USRA Race of Champions
  Rabbit Dry Lake Bed, CA
  October 24th thru 27th

New Timing System

The new timing system is still in development. Lots of progress has been made. I want to say thanks to Cal Bryant again for all of his hard work in developing this system. It should be tested before the last race of the year and hopefully see it work. Cal has had some medical issues that have slowed the process but he is doing better now. It still looks very promising.

New USRA Race Class

We have voted in a new class for the 2013 and on racing seasons. Want to thank Peter and Martin for getting the rules ironed out. In a nut shell, it is designed to bring in any airplane that has been previously approved by the USRA OR any airplane with an 80” wingspan or more to race with break out time. Breakout time will be 2 minutes and no slower than 2 minutes 30 seconds. Will race the same course that we use now and with the same timing system that Martin Treat has supplied for the last few years. The rules are kept very simple.

In Conclusion:

This year, we are having the 2 races on the west coast to bring in as many racers as possible. The USRA are always looking for ways to make or organization better every year. Please let us know what ideas you have so they can be discussed. That is how we grow. So let’s have a great year! There’s nothing better than Giant Scale Racing.
